Buy more than 1 pair of running shoes if you want to decrease your risk of injury

I’m not getting sponsored by shoe companies to say this…

But there is both anecdotal and peer reviewed research that shows your injury risk decreases when you train with more than one pair of shoes.

This research “analysis revealed that the parallel use of more than one pair of running shoes was a protective factor”. There was a 39% reduction in injuries when runners used different shoes.

Running expert and PT, Chris Johnson, agrees with this methodology.

He even believes that shoe companies will eventually create multiple different shoes to help facilitate this. He thinks there will be a daily trainer, a minimalist shoe, a maximalist shoe, and a carbon plated shoe.

This will increase variability and alter the forces on our bodies. Leading to less accumulation of repetitive stress injuries.

Shoes are expensive, but compared to being injured and needing treatment, it’s quite cheap.
