We are culturally biased toward visible effort.
The longer exercise program feels:
more thorough.
The fuller calendar feels:
more productive.
The denser song feels:
more composed.
The longer explanation feels:
more helpful.
The busier painting feels:
more finished.
But many good systems require:
unused capacity.
A muscle needs recovery between sufficient loading exposures.
A conversation needs enough silence for another person to enter.
A child sometimes needs a minute after:
“No.”
—not five additional explanations.
Sometimes the unfilled space isn't evidence that:
you haven't optimized it yet.
It may be the thing allowing everything else to function.
